the handle on my GE model VM140J spacemaker microwave broke into two pieces. I have the replacement part, but I do not know how to remove the existing handle and install the new handle.

It's an easy repair. I've performed it several times. GE definitely believes in designing their products for planned obsolesence. First obtain a replacement handle. Be prepared to pay $$$$ for the part. Next, open the door and using a kitchen butter or putty knife, gently insert the knife blade between the outer door shell and the inner face panel, and pry the inner face panel away from each molded catch. Repeat this sequence as you move around the inner perimeter of the door. Once the inner panel is off, access to the heads of the two handle retaining screws is afforded. Unscrew both retaining screws and gently remove the defective handle. Reverse this sequence to install the replacement handle.

Good Luck, the handle on my spacemaker has broken 3 times in 5 years.......there is no way you'll be able to put that new one on. You'll have to hire a professional, be prepared to pay....
