from what I remember there is only a single wire to the sender, unplug it and with the ignition on short it to ground the temp gauge should read max if it does then its prob the sender at fault if it doesnt then its either a wiring or gauge fault. If theres two wires to the sender then unplug both and join together with a split pin or the like and proceed as above.
