Treadmill belt 'slipping'?

Hi. We have a Horizon Fitness Treadmill, model Quantum 11 CS.
I reckon it's around 4-5 years old but has not been greatly used. It works fine but occassionally and unpredictably, when on running speeds, the belt seemes to briefly 'slip'. Obviously, this is potentially dangerous. I am reasonably competent with a spanner/screwdriver etc and am wondering if there is a 'quick fix' or do I need to call in an expert

generally this could be one of a few issues. It could be as simple as you may need to retension the belt to allow for some stretch over time. You may require a new drive vee belt (typically £10~15) if this does not work. Alternatively the actual drive roller may be slipping on the shaft. This can be fixed by redrilling and tapping holes to secure the drive roller with new cap head bolts (secure with lok tight on bolts used). The worst case scenario is that the shaft on the motor has sheared in two (this has occured on mine) and tyically a new motor is around £150.
