TECUMSEH Vantage 35 not rotating fully & jamming on start up?

When I try to start my mower by pulling the cord it just jams. I've checked the pull cord & dogs and they engage OK, its just the main rotor only travels so far (180 degrees) and stops. I've checked the blades are not hitting/fouling on anything. Has something ceased up? Verical shaft type.

Had this happen on a horizontal shaft Tecumseh which had stood some time but was very little use. Problem caused by build up of white alloy corrosion and carbon on the cylider head. Removed head & decoked it, problem solved! Did look at everything else first though.

Yes, sounds like the cord is not locating correctly - I found with mine that it was necessary to wind most of the cord on to compensate for the fact that the springs on the dogs have gone abit lazy. Stop it from unwinding by putting a screwdriver down though the vents when re-assembling.

the pull cord is slipping off the wheel when reassembling.
make sure it's staying on by holding with a small screwdriver
through the top vents/
