malfunction of control knob on Kenwood Chef ?

The control knob on my lovely old Kenwood Chef now suddenly has to be pressed hard in to engage the motor, and again pressed in to rev up the speed. Is this a minor thing that I can mend or get mended or would I be better getting a new machine?
