security code for sterio?

Hi my battery resently went flat on my hyundai accent 2001 and now the sterio needs a code a rang up hyundai and they said i will have to book it in for an hour and take the sterio out to get the serial number. and it will cost $110.
Is their another alternative?

Try this too, and you don't really need to buy the sterio pull out keys, as you can use a metal clothes hanger by snipping off two 6 inch straight peaces of the hanger then use a hammer to beat each edge of the metal strips. then bend them into a u shape, inserting them into the double holes on either side of the front of the sterio panel in order to pull it out enabling you to get the serial number.

Hi Sarah,

If you have the original handbook or the document from where the vehicle was originally purchased the first time, there's usually the code written either in the section of the car sterio or on the actual purchase invoice.

If this or what Terry advised hasn't helped then I would rather replace the radio for one that is cheaper......nowerdays even a $40 - 50 radio has alot of technology than that of the car manufacturer.

In the UK you just need to supply the dealer with the vehicles' VIN. From that they can find out the radio code. Try another Hyundai dealer.
