how to set code?

I got the battery replaced in my Renault Clio and the radio now does not come on .It requires Code which I know and have entered as said in the Radio Manual. As i go on trying the time for the 0000 to appear takes longer and longer. It does not validate the code. How can I set it again as it shows code again and again
