how can i open my bonnet?

how do i open my bonnet on my ford mondeo 54 plate when the key does nothing when i turn it either way

push down on bonnet at same time as turning key anti-clockwise as far as it goes then turn key clockwise as far as it goes at same time lift front of bonnet.
