fitting alternator belt to a vauxhall cavalier "L" reg?

what is required to fit this belt. I have tried to do it from the top. do I need to get underneath.
the belt will not slide between the PA steering pump pulley and the auto adjuster.

Hey, I think you'll find you've an engine mounting to remove to change the belt if it's one of those flat type things eh.. (I remember doin mine 10 years back)

to get tension go from underneath.1/2" drive ratchet fits into wee hole in tensioner.this allows you to loosen/ tension AND tighten the other bolts.dead easy.once youve done it youll wonder what the fuss was about.

Its an awkward one I did mine from underneath make sure the alternator slips back and forward easily before you start. Its much easier to fit then. I think there are at least 3 bolts. I used a trolley jack handle to get tension against the engine as it has to be tight or will squeal like a pig! Make sure you use a new belt as its easier to get the tension. You might need a second person to hold the tension whilst you tighten up. Use a haynes manual. They are helpful-hope this helps-Darron
