Whirlpool Dishwasher ADP6000IX - Grinding and Absence of H20?

I have a Whirlpool dishwasher that is suddenly grinding when it should be sucking in and spraying water. Doesn't seem to be taking any water in either - or not much, because there is steam and condensation?

probably the wash pump going faulty, ideally the pump would need to be taken out and checked for wear
