Put a test meter on ohms range, place leads across the two wires. One lead on each at the plug. With lid closed you will get 0 or maybe 0.1 ohms if switch is good. A reading any higher than 0.3 and you should replace it. When you open the lid the readinf will change and be open circuit. Make sure all power is off and machine is unplugged when working on it.
