Burning smell and stopped and won't drain water tried every cycle and won't work

No lights are on washer but when I try to turn dial to rinse and try again the sound I hear is a soft hum like it is trying to work

Is the machine completely dead.. no lights.. nothing ???..If it is,then the burning smell can be attributed to a number of things...We have already worked out its aborted mid cycle,.That can be attributed to drainage issues..But the burning smell.. that's more serious,often terminal .
