My Dyson DC05 seem to be sucking in, In the wrong place?

My Dyson DC05 is sucking in from the top of the cylinder, It looks like a vent and it has a spring inside of it. Does anyone know what is causing this problem and how it can be solved?

Hi Stephen.

Yes your machine has a blockage somewhere the spring & vent are part of the safety valve which open to allow air to pass over the motor when there is a blockage. It will allso do this if you cover the suction end of pie with your hand.
Find the blockade or you will burn the motor out.
