Smoke from my engine !!?

Hi, can anyone help me with this problem I have, I have a peugeot 406 2.0 turbo diesel on a s reg, and has done 122319 miles, it runs perfect except when I am stopped at lights or traffic for a few minutes and when I pull away I get plenty of blue smoke and it's very sluggish until I get into fourth gear and it seems to clear itself, I have checked my air filter and that's pretty clean, any ideas please, thanks

could be turbo itself, check oil grade and level is correct, you should use best available with turbo engines. Hard to diagnose but if you do remove turbo see if any evidence of oil going into turbine housing it would suggest valve guides etc, if dry suspect turbo.

it is very hard to determine your fault, would check engine breathers are ok,the fact it is sluggish could point to your turbo/turbo seals, would maybe see if you can remove the inlet pipe from the turbo and feel for play in the impeller, the fact it is burning oil also could be engine wear/valve stem seals and the head would have to come off which has a book time of roughly 13 hrs on these so you will have to weigh up the costs whether it is worth doing on a motor of this age, good luck
