How do I clean an egr valve on my astra 1.4 sxi 2005 on a 54 plate petrol?

My engine management light is always on pitot into a garage they put it on the computer it gave them a code and it came up egr valve . I was told that this could be cleaned or will I have to replace the valve altogether

petrol cars do not have an egr valve,the egr valve is only fitted to diesel engines.

if the diaphram has split it will need changing, if not split can be cleaned with care
