if it goes into gear with engine off then you have a clutch problem.Did you replace all three parts of clutch?Is the cable adjusted properly?Have seen clutch release levers where the cable attaches to have stress fractures also.I do not want to doubt yourself also but was the centre plate put in the correct way round and it is not unusual to have a faulty new clutch assy.Have seen the bulkhead where the cable goes through to the pedal have stress fractures also affecting clutch clearance,just some things to check,good luck
