fiesta lazy starter?

Ihave an old p reg fiesta when I start it the starter sounds lazy as if the batteries flat turn the ignition off and back on it starts first time as normal ,starter kicks in straight away? today I parked it up went back to start it ....nothing all dash lights were on as normal, anyway ended up towing it to get it started got back home (about a mile an half away) turned ignition off sat there for five mins tried it again and it started ok. could the starter be on its way out or does it need a bit of wd40 squirtin in it?

I doubt that its the starter itself.
I would go to the ignition switch first and put a meter on the starter relay wire and if you get a positive reading every time you try to start then you move on to the starter motor relay itself.
These are prone to suffering from burnt contacts which can produce unpredictable relay conections particularly in an older car like yours.
