E1 means operator error. It is letting you know that you have pressed the wrong buttons or the machine is not ready to do that (for example, if you do not finish a sale in REG mode but you try to run a report with the sale half completed). Go back to REG mode and try a NO SALE. If that works, go back and try a report.
