steering wheel judder ?

focus 1.8 tdci.
when driving at 50+ mph and firmly apply foot brake the steering wheel shakes/judders and then stops when speed has reduced. car doesn't wander or want to pull to one side, brakes feels fine and no feed back through pedal. checked brake callipers and all seem ok. any ideas.
thanks

Warped discs. Replace them with new ones. When you stop at lights in future use your handbrake instead of sitting at a standstill with your foot brake on.
