Why can't I send texts from my Virgin Mobile Phone?

I can't send text messages from my Virgin Mobile Phone. It errors and says "not sent". It hasn't worked for ages. I think the problem maybe that Virgin have changed the number the phone should ring to send the message. Is there a way to find out what the number should be?

Check to see if your Message Centre Number is correct. For Virgin it should be +447958879890.

(Look up how to change the Message Centre Number in your manual. It varies depending on the phone.)

The other thing to check is that the Message Format is set to either "text" or "SMS"

Just dial 222 and follow the instrutions.
You will get a text message back setting up your phone (message will be blank).
