My drive belt won't go back on ?

I have an Indesit washer / dryer, the drive belt has come off but now that I have tried to put it back on it seems too short and won't stretch round the pulley.

jenny put it under the motor drive then on to the top pully then turn the top pully clockwise while holding the belt
