Hello, Singer 514, I have just acquired this lovely old machine, I have given it a good clean and de-fluff but the material does not feed through and the dogs are not moving either. they do not move when turning it manually or with the pedel? can you help

if you look at the machine from the top towards right side of top shaft there is a nylon gear and another thats at bottom of this gear with shaft going down vertically towards bottom shaft also with gear attached.see if there is movement on bottom gear if handwheel is turned.this gear at top off vertical shaft is the one ken says normally brake.if you mechanical minded you can drill hole at back of machine to loosen screw on gear and then replace but you will have to set feed timing again.good luck

You will probably find the top nylon drive gear is broken, very common, take the top off and have a look
