After a prolonged period of non use,when switched on for intended use,all you hear is an "electric hum" and it fails to take in water or start working.Any ideas would help immensly

First thing that should happen is the drain pump should run for about 1 minute then the water valve should open and let in water. If drain pump is running all the time you have water in the base of the machine triggering the anti flood device. If pump stops after 1 minute then no water and a buzz, either the valve is stuck or there is no water supply to the machine. Whilst buzzing switch mains on and off several times quickly it may release the valve. Also try the "reset". Cheers
