Fisher & Paykel, Smart Drive 051 won't rinse or spin?

This machine is about 20 years old, never had problems (Excellent run, I know...).
When it enters RINSE cycle (after all wash cycles) it just stalls. Then finally gives repeated beeps. Trouble-shooting guide says "Turn off & unplug, wait 15secs".
Unfortunatley, same problem.
If I advance it passed the RINSE cycle to the FINAL RINSE cycle, it tops up with some water, but then won't empty water. If I advance to the SPIN cycle, it stalls. So at both places where it should empty the water, it stalls.

Thanks Lincoln Appliance NZ for the reply.
My machine is now fixed (see my second post). It's 19-20yo, and an MW-051-U model of the Smart Drive (Product Code:93915).
The Use & Care book doesn't mention anything about light sequences = error codes.
The machine had continuous beeps and I think (though not certain) that of the 8 lights you mention only the RINSE light was on, so: 00000100.
Anyway, it was a blocked pump/outlet hose.
Thanks again for your reply

I fixed this problem!
Decided to try to check pump and outlet hose, but could not work out how to do it from various posts on blogs. The "Inspection Hatch" is almost useless - yes I can see the Water Pump, but that's about it. The hose runs out the back of the water pump then up to where it exits the machine housing (back top left corner). I managed to find a Service Manual online (http://www.angelsnz.net/ZL3SV/misc/F&P%20Service%20manual%20517735.pdf) and used this to complete the job. Machine back together, but it was a BIG job - Lid & machine top off, Manually empty water, Inner bowl out (really difficult since machine 20yo & drive spline did NOT want to come off - or go back on)...finally inspect top of pump. Very difficult to get to hose without upending machine! So I rigged up a hose and blasted water through the outlet near the pump in the bottom of the outer wash bowl.
This job was fiddly and took hours, but very do-able if you can read a manual, use a screw driver and have some trouble-shooting & problem-solving skills. Very satisfying when the machine 1. Still worked! 2. Empties water.
Found fur/hair/muck, a safety pin and a wire from an under wire bra all around the top of the pump, in particular the impellor. Lots of muck flushed from hose also.

If it does not drain the water it will not spin. So your problem may be with the drain pump. Either blocked or stuffed & needs replacing. When it beeps you are supposed to write down the error code. While it is beeping, do not press any buttons. Just look at the 8 lights along the top row. Count from left to right and note exactly which lights are on and which are off. Post the result back here & I will tell you what the error code is and what to do about it.
