how do i know that its my clutch that needs replacing??

my ford ka 1.3 goes into gear quite smoothly but when revs applyed and handbreak released the car goes nowhere. it doesnt stall it just continues to tick over but i when put in reverse gear the car will move backwards. is it the clutch? if so which part of the clutch is worn??

My guess is your clutch centre plate is worn but when the g/box is out it is false economy not to replace the three parts of the clutch.
