how to change battery?

I have an optima compact alarm the battery is flat as when power goes off the alarm activates do I need to turn the power off to replace the battery ? because if I do how can I stop the alarm screaming

turn power off remove cover fit new battery replace cover ,ignore the noise reset the system turn power back on
