I have a golf III GL 2.0 Automatic transmission, i developed a hard startup and when i step the gas, it stops. Its also has failed to engage the 3rd gear on road. When i step hard on the gas to instigate engagement of gear, the rpm goes over 3k towards 4k, until i release but still no change over. Seems pretty fast but the noise irrittates. All sterted when i took it for engine wash, now almost a week but no change. Some help

My guess is you have created problems electrically by washing down your engine,long gone are the days when you dried out a distributor cap and leads and with most faults nowadays would get it onto the correct computer to see what faults are stored.
