most are either on a spline shaft or taper shaft and the hand/s can come loose you need to remove the face glass/plastic remove the batteries then check if the second hand is loose or put gentle even pressure on the arm at the spindle. Refit the batteries and see if it works then. If not it could be the collar on the second hand is worn too big for the drive shaft or an internal drive fault.
