My programmer loses all its pre installed heating and water timer settings when there is a power cut. Could there be a back-up battery which is no longer functioning?

Is it possible to buy a replacement battery, dismantle the unit and replace the battery?

I could have a go but would need instructions as I am not a DIYer!
