Having read all the blogs on this problem I need to know how I can go fully armed to my local VW dealer and ask if they can fix my ESP light on my 55 plate golf. It failed its MOT on this point only. Nothing else worng with car. low mileage and very reliable but am now looking at a huge bill for a light?!

Try the one you have used to get it serviced regularly since you purchased the car from them. That is the only way in which you will have generated any goodwill.
