can you exchange a thermostat on towel heater with a one of another maker?

I have Kariel ecetric Towel rail which stopped working. The light goes on on the thermostat, but no heating comes out. Can I replace the thermostat and the electric element with another brand, since Kariel is not in business any more. Thanks, Anina
