How to work the timer on Potterton puma 80e?

how does the potterton puma 80e timer actually work. Are we supposed to press the teeth on the clock in or out to turn on when on a timer.

make sure all teeth are either in or out ,then put on auto, if you get no response then you know that the oppisite will turn on when selected. make sure you put correct time in line with arrow displayed on clock face.
