How do I remove the capacitor from my 507 singer sewing machine?

My 507 singer sewing machine sews on its own and the foot pedal starts smoking and emits a burning smell. I have ascertained that this is down to the capacitor, having done a fair amount of 'googling'.I have decided to remove the capacitor,as this is the advice of several contributors on the howtomendit website, but having opened up the foot pedal,I saw to my great dismay that the capacitor is 'wired up'with a yellow wire going in on one end ,the prong at the end of it touching the plate, and a metal prong going in on the other end, again touching the plate on that end.I have NO Idea what to do!Can anyone out there explain, using idiot-proof language please?

Thankyou to the very kind person who took the time and trouble to help me with my defunct capacitor.Your instructions were clear, simple to follow, totally idiot proof--and WORKED!I now have a happy machine which behaves beautifully. Thanks again.

You do not need to remove the capacitor as in - physically take it away - what you can do to achieve what people advise is to take it out of circuit - just cut away one of the connections - snip close to the capacitor - follow that wire to wherever it goes and snip it off too - throw the wire away.

You could achieve this by just cutting one wire and leaving it where it is - a small chance of vibration causing the wire to touch something it shouldn't.

The capacitor is removed from circuit if one connection is taken away.
