How can I fix my clutch not returning to rest position?

My dash was removed to fix a aircon problem on my 2008 Renault Scenic 1,9 diesel. My clutch pedal did not return to the rest position and this morning when I tried to start the car, I could not get it into gear. Also, my cruise control was not engaging. This happened about 2 weeks ago when they worked on the aircon problem as well but came right after about 2 days. Any suggestions?

On my car - a Ford Fiesta - the hydraulic actuator is fitted immediately below the pedal arm - a pin comes from the actuator and rests against the pedal arm. If they get out of line with one another I get the symptoms you describe. A simple clip should hold them in line together but the clip is lost. I have fixed it twice now with a plastic cable tie.

My Fiesta has no cruise control.
