How do I get the register key to turn to "P" for updating the sales tax?

How do I get the key on a Samsung ER-4940 to turn to "P" so I can update the sales tax. Should the cash register be "open" or "closed"?

Open or closed just refers to whether someone has logged on to make sales or not. Log on to open the register for operation. To turn the key to P mode, you'll need the P (program), or C (control) key. Check the top of the key to work out which one you have.
