I am not a boiler engineer - I just guess based on inferior knowledge.

If your boiler actually started but then failed to continue it might be a fan/pressure switch issue but that's just wild guessing - I have no idea what the roofers might have done.

There's an interesting article about an intermittent boiler saga here... Profile 50e

Thanks. The boiler just kicked briefly, and then immediately the flame went out again. Could it be due to the air intake? I have had roofers in today?

Send for a boiler specialist...

To get the pilot flame requires....

Fan running
Case fitted correctly
Pressure switch activated
Circuit board behaving correctly
Pilot gas valve opening
Electronic spark ignition

There is an overheat cut-out which you can reset - falls out from underneath - but in your case it will not have operated.

You can sometimes see the ignition spark through the observation window - hear it too - if you have the spark then the pilot gas valve is suspect and the other things eliminated.
