non starter?

Ive a 1.8td escort .and going down the road it just cut out and now doesnt start .
Fuel filters fine .
Glow plugs working
Now theres a loudish clicking coming from the top of the fuel pump .could this be the problem ?

Found the problem .the pully has shered off !!!actuall snaped the pumps shaft .thanks

Fuel filter housings/hand primers were a very common fault on these along with the fuel cooler for drawing air,also had problems with the fuel pipes at the rear of the engine bay,they were bad for chaffing,maybe worth a look,good luck.
