Hi any way to make batteries last longer than a week in my Boss therm BPS242RF room stat, the first set lasted over 2 years

Either the unit has developed a fault and is using too much power - possible but unlikely - or you're using inferior batteries from the pound shop.

Better batteries or a new device.
