I am using my mixer to make bread(as I always do) and it is smoking. Can anything be done or is it gone?

You do not say the make or model of your mixer - it may be possible for a confident person to repair it but a professional repair might not be cost effective - you would do well to resign yourself to having to buy a new one - unless you know a handyman with time on his hands.
