How to change a shower pull switch box?

NRob, October 2011
I had my shower on today and the red light on the on/off pull cord started flashing, then sparks came flying out of the switch any idea's what has happened? I recently got the roof plastered and there is a gap where the pull cord (on/off switch) is because I had wodden beems on my roof but got them removed so the switch is hanging lose, would a lose wire cause it to have sparks fying out of the hole?

if you can see enouth of the cord to tie onto then yes , however if the cord cannot be seen , then a new pullcord switch is then required . it is called a 45 amp pullcord switch with neon, and can be got in an electrical wholesalers or b and q / homebase for around £10 - 15 pounds and roughly the same for an electrician to fit. try to get mk or crabtree or contactum make if you can as these are the most reliable, hope this helps .

You should be able to providing the original ceiling fitting has a seperate cord running through it. If it has then there should be a plastic attachment about 3 inches from the ceiling mounting through which you can thread the new cord. If not then it probably requires a new fitting which, unless you are a dab hand, will require assistance to fit as they can be a little fiddly. Good luck - I am in exactly the same position with my bathroom light but cannot fix it because a) it is dark now and b) I am at work tomorrow!
