why does my hotpoint ultima wf860p washer keep doing a full test?

the washer when switched on goes automatically onto test on the screen then runs full fault diagnostics

Thanks Steve,
You've just saved me an expensive repair bill and the Mrs is happy again! In case anyone else has the same problem:
1. Switch the machine off first by pressing the ON/OFF
button, this will cancel any testing process the machine
might be in the middle of. It's not that easy to tell if the
testing process is still going, so you may as well switch
off any way.
2. Switch the machine back on by pressing the ON/OFF
button once.
3. Press the ON/OFF & Start/Cancel buttons (the 2 half
moons) simultaneously, ignoring all the displays until 'ON'
appears.
4. That's it, job done! Mrs is happy, I'm happy so, once again
thanks Steve, you're a gem!

It sounds like the Diagnostic Mode as accidently been activated by catching the two centre buttons. When this happens the appliance displays test and go through a test cycle.

You can normaly fix this very easily by pressing both the ON/OFF and START/CANCEL buttons together and holding for more than 5 seconds. The display should then display DOFF and then return to ON.

This worked for me and is worth trying before calling out an engineer
