How can I fix my Indesit DG6100W -sticking clock and won't heat?

My dishwasher (Indesit DG6100W) worked fine until the other week when (I think) some sticky labels off a jar came off and blocked the filter. I did not realise I had a problem until the following morning when the washer was still 'washing' - and would not move-on. I cleared the blockage and moved the dial, and it then went on to finish the wash. However, now, whenever I use the machine it stops part way through cycle 2 and sometimes has to be moved on 2 or 3 times to finish the wash. I have had the front off and checked the 'clock' - but this appears Ok (through I can't really see inside it). One thing I have noticed is that the heater has not been working since the blockage - and I wondered if the overnight episode had damaged this.
I have bought and fitted a new heater element, but the problem remains - clock sticks and the water does not heat up! My multimeter seems to indicate that the old element was in fact, ok. Still the clock looks fine...What's next? Is there a fuse somewhere on the heater circuit, or a thermostat or a water level sensor I should check????????

PleeeeeeSE answer if you know..

Had the same problem after semi-flooding of the unit. Drained the water - no result, still ticking clock, no washing. Appeared that the water input was blocked due to floater-switch in bottom part of machine that was triggered due to water spilling into it (because output was blocked).
Dried switch - all ok.
