How to replace chainsaw bar studs?

I have a Craftsman 3.7 chainsaw. The studs that hold the guide bar in place when you tension the chain loop are worn and the threads shot on them. This was due I assume from previous owner using wrong bar (slot too large). If you take fuel tank off and split it, can the studs be replaced?
Sears # on saw is 917.351780 but in their drawings no bar studs are listed, just the stud nuts.
Thanks.

funny you should ask. i just dug out a Craftsman 3.7 i rescued from the trash years ago. It had the same problem: the front stud had pulled its threads, & the owner tossed it.
I drilled out the hole with the correct tap & installed a heli coil. they sell them at the hardware store, along with the helicoil tap, and it says what size drill bit to use.....
Can you email me the numbers on your bar? I never got around to getting a bar & chain, & I dont know what pitch, etc. It says "!8 in"
on the housing.... neoludd@earthlink.net

this model saw isnt available in UK but the studs will slide out
when dismantled. this may cause a worse problem by the fuel
tank leaking ever after.
i wouldnt attempt to do this unless you can get the correct
gasket or be willing to alter studs that you can get hold of to
make them fit
also the tank may have a rubber type O RING gasket which
cannot easily be replaced
