How do i fix Amstrad DRX280 stuck in standby?

Hi
How do i recover Amstrad DRX280 SKY+ box which is stuck in standby; without losing stored data?
Rac, March 2007
I have a DRX280 which is stuck in Standby. I tried the power up method, holding both the forward and reverse buttons down and waiting until the green circle of lights rotate. After waiting over 10 minutes, the problem remains. Any further ideas please ?

if drx280 is stuck in standby , and every thing fails to kick start it.
remove the top cover and power it up from the plug and leave it for
about 5 mins. keep an eye on it and see if the cooling fan on the back is starting up for few seconds then cuts out ,also 12v regulator
fitted on heatsink which feeds the HDD is getting very hot. if so this
means the HDD is faulty.don't mess with the power supply.if you have an old HDD from pc use that and carry out the following to install upgrades. (1) hold down left & right button together and power it up .(2) wait until the ring lights comes on then let go and press the back up button once (3) sit back and wait 5 min while
it's going through full upgrades.now every thing should be ok.
it worked with sky+ and it's still working. good luck.

Page 66 in your sky manual has instructions to restart.....

Failing that forced software upgrade by
1) Power of at plug then unplug power cord wait 5 min plug power cord back in
2) Switch back on the power at the plug while holding the power button and the backup button at the same time
3) Release the power button but keep the backup button depressed until all the LED's stop flashing on the front of the box

Box will now go thru upgrade wait 5 min after it's finished power off from the remote

Power back on wait 5 min before playing with your box

This fails ring sky if your still in contract or buy a new box from ebay...

If it is stuck in standby. replace the secondary capacitors in the PSU

It's probably not possible, I'm afraid. Stuck-in-standby seems to (generally) mean that the hard-drive on the sky+ box has failed. It may be possible to remove the drive, and get it to work for a short time in a PC and use some software called "Copy Plus" to copy the recordings to a new hard-drive which should then work in your sky+ box, however I wouldn't bet on it :(
