What's causing my dome light to remain on?

What's causing my dome light to remain on after I've closed the car door on my 2001 Ford Taurus? It's happen a couple of times in the pass 3 weeks. The warning light showing there is a door open also is on when this happpens. I checked all the doors and they are shut. Can you please tell me what's causing this problem? It's after I go around opening and closing the doors a few times it finally goes off.

The door latch probably has a switch in it that is part of the latch. That switch is the one that tells the dome light to stay on and turns off/on the "door open" light. In Ford Rangers it is a common problem that this electrical switch "sticks". The fix is to spray WD40 or some other lubricant into the latch asembly on the door. Maybe the Ford Taurus has the same problem. Cheap fix and worth a try. A less common problem is a failure in your GEM (General Electronics Modual) that controls all them things.

The door jam switches are messing up ....some have them on the front of the door which look like push buttons ........
other ones are actually in the door lock mech that locks the door when you shut it at rear of door
