Why does the electricity for the oven get channelled through the timer ?

My oven will not work, and a self help book said the timer may be at fault.Can I by-pass the timer? Thankyou

there is no reason why you cannot bypass the timer, if you are electrically minded enough you should be able to test to see if the power is getting to the element or not.
