My 1995 escort is making a loud knocking sound, especially when I go at a low speed. This just began after having a new timing belt, fan belt and water pump installed. Sounds as though it is coming from the engine block, but I don't know much about cars. Any ideas or thoughts???? It is a 1995 Ford Escort LX with 79,000 miles.

you never said petrol or diesel but in either case an easy way of telling where the fault lies is to start the engine get a long screw driver put it against the engine block making sure not to catch in any moving parts and u should be able to find out exactly where the knocking is coming from without knowing for sure your looking for a needle in a haystack
