I have a MF 165 diesel tractor. When I press the clutch in it purrs like a kitten. However, when I let the clutch out it knocks (bangs) very loudly. Sound to me like something in the transmission housing. Any suggestions would help.

If the hydraulic arms are at the top it could be the hydraulic pump, try letting the arms down a bit. Is it a 2 stage clutch or independant pto??
