Laguna, How to enter the radio code?

I have the Renault (Phillips) radio/cd/cassette player with the graphic equaliser in the head unit. I need to enter the code. When the stereo is turned on, I get 5 lit blocks in the equaliser, but I don't see how to enter the code. Any ideas?

done
"if the code is entered incorrectly an error bleep will sound, and message code will appear, the set must be left on for 1 minute before you can reenter code though, each time u are unsuccessful the time doubles 2-4-8-16 mins "

Thats quoted from handbook for the renault phillips stereo, hopefully that will help.

Nope, no buttons do anything. I have been told that the steering remote can do it, but this too does not work. I have tried loads of things, and when turned on the equaliser bars go up about half-way, BUT if I hold down presets 1 & 3 while powering on, they go ALL the way up!! (Not sure what that means though!) I think maybe the stereo is locked, so I'll pop to renault and see what they can do. Thanks though

just looked at the book for my stereo its the phillips without an equaliser in a laguna, think it will enter the same way though, use the keys for the station presets 1-5 , if the first number is 5 then you press button 1 5 times, and so on, button 1 for the first button 2 for the second etc, so if code was 12345 button 1 once button 2 twice.... think you get the drift here, then once code inputed press button 6, mine says button 5 but mine only a 4 number code
