Samsung Fridge-freezer stops cooling - needs turning off and on?

Hi,

I have a Samsung SR2028CSS fridge freezer and in the last week it has developed a fault.

The digital display reads -20 C on the freezer side and 3 on the fridge side. However, the temperatures inside are obviously a lot higher than these readings and the appliance is silent.

When powered off and on, the displays seem to reflect the real temperatures, (e.g. 7 on freezer and 12 on fridge yesterday )and it can be heard starting to refrigerate again. The temperatures inside both compartments decrease and the digital display reflects the decreasing temperatures.

However when the target temperature is reached it stops cooling and the process has to be repeated.

Is it likely that the thermostat is faulty, sensing the temperature and stopping the cooling but sticking in this state ?

Thanks for any advice,
Steve.
